1. How Modern Compass Uses AI

Modern Compass is powered by AI language models from Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini). Anthropic is the primary provider; Google serves as a fallback to ensure service availability. AI is used in the following features:

All of these features produce AI-generated output. None involve human review, human coaches, or licensed professionals.

2. AI Personas Are Not Real People

Compass Coach provides AI-powered career coaching conversations through four distinct personas: Maya, Campbell, Morgan, and Juno. These personas are fictional characters generated entirely by artificial intelligence. They are not real people. They do not possess human judgment, emotional understanding, or professional expertise.

The differentiation between personas is designed to offer varied coaching perspectives and communication styles. It does not represent different levels of expertise or qualification. All personas are powered by the same underlying AI model. Any resemblance to real persons is coincidental.

3. Not Professional Advice

Modern Compass is an AI-powered informational and assistive tool. It does not provide and is not a substitute for:

• Licensed career counseling or vocational rehabilitation
• Professional coaching certified by ICF or any credentialing body
• Psychological counseling, therapy, or mental health treatment
• Legal advice regarding employment law, contracts, or workplace disputes
• Financial, tax, or investment advice
• Medical or health-related advice regarding workplace stress or burnout
• Human resources consulting or employment placement services
• Guaranteed job placement, interview success, or career outcomes

If you need professional support in any of these areas, we strongly encourage you to consult with a qualified, licensed professional.

Use of Modern Compass does not create a professional coaching relationship, counselor-client relationship, or any fiduciary duty between you and Modern Compass LLC. The AI personas are software tools, not professional advisors. No duty of care, confidentiality privilege, or professional obligation arises from your use of the Platform beyond what is described in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

4. AI Limitations and Accuracy

4.1 Content May Be Inaccurate

AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, errors, omissions, outdated information, or fabricated information (sometimes called “hallucinations”). You should not rely on factual assertions in AI outputs without independently verifying their accuracy.

This applies to all AI features: coaching conversations, generated resumes, cover letters, job match scores, skill gap analyses, goal insights, and parsed resume data.

4.2 No Personal Knowledge

While Modern Compass uses information from your profile and conversation history to personalize responses, the AI does not truly “know” you. It generates responses based on patterns in training data and the context you provide. It cannot fully understand nuanced personal or professional situations.

4.3 Conversation Context Limitations

To manage technical constraints, coaching conversations are summarized after extended exchanges. This means the AI may not perfectly recall details from earlier in a conversation. Critical information should be noted separately by the user.

4.4 Potential for Bias

AI models may reflect biases present in their training data. Coaching suggestions, resume language, and job analyses may inadvertently favor certain career paths, industries, demographics, or approaches. We encourage you to critically evaluate all AI-generated guidance and seek diverse perspectives.

5. Your Responsibilities

5.1 General

You are solely responsible for evaluating, verifying, and acting on any guidance, suggestions, or content generated by the Platform. You should make career decisions based on your complete understanding of your own situation, not solely on AI-generated output.

5.2 AI-Generated Documents (Resumes and Cover Letters)

You must review, verify, and edit all AI-generated resumes, cover letters, and other documents before submitting them to employers, recruiters, or any third party.

Specifically:

• Verify that all job titles, company names, dates, and descriptions are accurate
• Confirm that skills and qualifications listed are truthful and that you possess them
• Review AI-rewritten experience bullets to ensure they accurately represent your work
• Check that the overall tone and content reflect your professional voice
• Ensure no information has been fabricated, exaggerated, or omitted

Modern Compass does not intentionally fabricate roles, companies, or credentials. However, AI may rephrase, reorganize, or summarize your experience in ways that introduce errors or misrepresentations. You are responsible for the final content of any document you submit to a third party.

5.3 Job Analysis and Match Scores

Job match scores, skill gap analyses, ATS keyword analyses, and action plans are AI-generated estimates. They should not be interpreted as predictions of actual hiring decisions or as professional assessments of your qualifications. Actual job requirements and hiring criteria may differ significantly from what AI can infer from a job posting.

5.4 Goal Insights

AI-generated SMART scoring, risk analyses, and milestone suggestions are starting points for reflection, not definitive assessments. They may not account for your full personal, financial, or professional circumstances.

5.5 Professional Matters

You should seek qualified professional advice when dealing with legal, financial, medical, or mental health matters. AI coaching is not equipped to handle these domains.

6. Career Outcomes

Modern Compass does not guarantee any specific career outcome, including but not limited to job offers, salary increases, promotions, career transitions, or interview invitations. Employment markets are dynamic and influenced by many factors beyond the scope of any AI tool. You should supplement AI-generated insights with your own research, networking, and professional judgment.

7. Emotional Well-Being

Career transitions can be emotionally challenging, especially for mid-career professionals balancing work and family responsibilities. While Compass Coach is designed to be supportive and encouraging, it is not equipped to provide emotional or psychological support.

8. How Your Data Is Processed by AI

When you use AI-powered features, relevant portions of your data are transmitted to our AI providers for processing. We use Anthropic (Claude) as our primary AI provider and Google (Gemini) as a fallback provider for service continuity. Key facts:

• Only contextually relevant data is sent — your complete profile is not transmitted with every request
• Neither provider uses your data to train AI models — Anthropic operates under commercial API terms; Google’s paid Gemini API has equivalent data use restrictions
• Provider data retention: Anthropic retains API data for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring, then deletes it. Google’s data retention policies are governed by their Gemini API Terms of Service
• Conversation data is stored in your account and is subject to the retention and deletion policies in our Privacy Policy
• Provider selection is automatic — if Anthropic experiences a service disruption, your requests may be processed by Google instead. You will not be notified of individual provider switches, as the coaching experience is designed to be seamless

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Modern Compass LLC shall not be liable for any damages, losses, or adverse outcomes arising from your reliance on AI-generated content, including but not limited to missed job opportunities, career setbacks, financial losses, consequences of submitting AI-generated documents without adequate review, or emotional distress. 10. Acceptance

By using any AI-powered feature on the Platform — including Compass Coach, resume generation, cover letter generation, job analysis, goal insights, or resume parsing — you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this disclosure. If you do not agree with any part of this disclosure, please do not use the Platform’s AI features.
